This was not to be the first long solo passage for the Captain. He had crossed the Atlantic alone before and knew well what lie ahead. He knew that he was about to sneak through the window of time to enter an existence unbounded by the trappings of society. Here is an existence that ignores the many rules, regulations and the dos and don’ts of civilized man. This is a time and place without stoplights, and screaming billboards. Here the captain knows that he has no obligations and there are no expectations to meet. Here there is a new reality that is both challenging and rewarding. What follows in these pages that he has set down in his account of a different way to feel life and to love and value it.
